Solar Sanctuaries

Last year the Minnesota state legislature passed bill HF 3353 which established standards and guidelines for creating Solar Sanctuaries underneath solar panels. The benefits of planting natives under and around solar panels are many:

•Increase pollinator populations close to farm fields.

•Capture nutrients in the soil by using deep rooted native plants.

•Provide business opportunities for prairie restoration and native plant providers

•Limit public opposition to solar farms

Minnesota is one of two states (Maryland is the other) that has official guidelines for pollinator friendly habitat near and around solar arrays.
